My Art Journey

Passion in Living Color

I am originally a Southern California girl, and grew up near the beautiful beaches located there.  Walking on sand, smelling salt air, and hearing sea-gulls made me dream of painting those breath-taking seascapes. This seemed very out of reach for me.  Now, it’s my favorite thing to do!

In my 20’s, I worked for 5 years, as a full-time volunteer counselor in the inner cities across America, with troubled youth. Our group worked in some of the worst slums we could find, along with half-way houses, detention centers, jails, and schools. We saw many lives changed as a result.

Later, I became a successful Realtor, Escrow Agent, and an Office Manager for a top-notch Real Estate Company After that, I also worked as a Certified Travel Agent, and did a lot of traveling.  And, although I excelled in the positions I held, I always felt the need for creativity in my life. I wanted to break out of my cocoon.

It wasn’t until 2015, and meeting Teresa Dedmon, founder of “Create Academy,” I began considering art as healing therapy for myself and others; and it was there I gained a whole new identity through painting. As I studied art at Shasta College, in Redding, CA, and painted on stage at church conferences, I began to understand anyone can learn to paint or do other art forms, if they simply try.

In 2018, I started teaching my first workshops, and found it deeply rewarding to see how my students grew in their own work.  Watching them excel was extremely rewarding for me.  It’s something I feel passionate about – passing on to others what God has given me. All they need is to be set free from all the fear holding them back, like I was! What’s more, I feel God smiling as I paint, which brings me great joy.
